Colin Montgomery
Colin Montgomery is an Associate Broker with Sotheby’s International Realty in New York City, known for a thoughtful, design-driven approach to how homes are perceived and valued. His referral-based practice, established in 2013, reflects long-standing client relationships built on trust and discretion. His early career in the arts, and his graduate work in photography, sharpened his understanding of how people read space and how presentation influences value long before a property comes to market.
Colin approaches homes much the way he approaches images— through composition, clarity, and the elements that draw the eye. He collaborates closely with photographers, filmmakers, and the Sotheby’s marketing team to create listings that feel cohesive and intentional. His exclusives have been featured in major publications and leading real-estate platforms, reflecting how clearly they communicate narrative and value.
He represents clients wherever their lives and investments take them, with particular fluency across Manhattan and brownstone Brooklyn. He has an affinity for prewar buildings and townhomes, and maintains a curated global network of trusted real-estate partners. This is one of the reasons his business has long been aligned with Sotheby’s International Realty.
In negotiation, Colin is analytical and pragmatic. His experience across co-ops, condominiums, townhouses, and multigenerational properties allows him to remain steady when stakes are high. He approaches every transaction with respect for all parties, advocating firmly for his clients while maintaining the professionalism complex deals require.
Many of his clients are creators, collectors, and multigenerational families, and he approaches each property as both a financial and cultural asset.
Colin graduated from Sidwell Friends School, earned dual degrees in Art History and Politics from New York University, and received his MFA from the Yale University School of Art. He is a Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE) and a member of the Real Estate Board of New York. A New Yorker since the late 1990s, he lives on the Upper West Side with his family.
